Speaker Biographies

1. Prof. Kennth P. Ghiggino, The University of Melbourne

Ken Ghiggino is Emeritus Professor in the School of Chemistry at The University of Melbourne. His recent research has focused on characterising new light harvesting and semiconducting materials for photovoltaic cells, and ultrafast spectroscopy of energy and charge transfer in artificial photosynthetic systems. He is a past President of the Asian and Oceania Photochemistry Association. He is a Fellow of the Royal Australian Chemical Institute and the Royal Society of Chemistry.

2. Prof. Trevor A. Smith, The University of Melbourne

Trevor Smith is a physical chemist specialising in the development and application of time-resolved spectroscopy and optical microscopy techniques through the Ultrafast and Microspectroscopy Laboratories in Chemistry at the University of Melbourne. Following his PhD at UniMelb he was a postdoc at Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine, London, UK. The UML comprise a suite of ultrafast lasers and advanced optical microscopy instrumentation that is used to study a diverse range of fields materials for potential applications, e.g. in photovoltaics, light emitting devices, and some biological and botanical systems. Smith has been a Chief Investigator on two Australian Research Council Centres of Excellence in Coherent X-Ray Science (2005-2013 and Exciton Science (2017-2024)). He is past-President of the Asian & Oceanian Photochemistry Association and Co-chair (2017-2026) of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry Sub-committee on Photochemistry.

3. Prof. Peng Zeng, Sichuan University

Peng Zeng received his Bachelor's, Master's, and Ph.D. degrees from Tsinghua University, Tohoku University (Japan), and the University of Melbourne (Australia), respectively. He is currently an Associate Professor at the School of Mechanical Engineering and Auckland Institute, Sichuan University. His research primarily focuses on time-resolved ultrafast spectroscopy techniques to investigate the mechanisms of photoelectric conversion processes and novel optoelectronic materials and devices. His main research interests include ultrafast dynamics of photogenerated hot carriers, carrier dynamics in complex device structures, and time-resolved spectroscopy and super-resolution microscopy techniques based on ultrafast lasers. He has led multiple research projects funded by the NSFC, and recently by aerospace technology renovation programs.

4. Prof. Bolong Zhang, Xinjiang Technical Institute of Physics and Chemistry

Bolong Zhang is currently a Professor at the Xinjiang Technical Institute of Physics and Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences. He serves as Deputy Director of the Xinjiang Engineering Technology Center for Thermistor Materials and Components, and is a core member of the Key Laboratory of Functional Materials and Devices for Special Environmental Conditions. He has been selected for the National Overseas High-level Talent Introduction Program (Youth Project), honored as a Fujian Provincial High-level Talent (Category C), and awarded the Xinjiang “Tianchi Talents – Leading Talent” title. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Melbourne, Australia in 2019, and subsequently worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Cambridge, United Kingdom from 2020 to 2022. His research interests include organic optoelectronic materials, fluorescent dyes, spectral conversion technology, and optical temperature sensing. In recent years, he has led 2 national-level and 2 provincial-level scientific research projects and has published over 40 peer-reviewed SCI papers.

5. Prof. Can Gao, Institute of Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences

Can Gao is currently an associate professor at the Institute of Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences. She received her PhD degree from the University of Melbourne, Australia in 2019. Her research interests are focused on the development of organic light-emitting transistor materials and investigation of their photoelectric properties. She has published over 30 peer reviewed papers on Nat. Mater., Adv. Mater., Angew. Chem. Int. Ed., et al. She serves as the managing editor of Wearable Electronics.

6. Prof. Weilong Xu, Changzhou Institute of Technology

Wei-Long Xu is an Associate Professor at Changzhou Institute of Technology. He received his Ph.D. in Microelectronics and Solid-State Electronics from Shandong University in 2016, and spent one year as a visiting scholar at the Ultrafast and Microspectroscopy Laboratories, University of Melbourne, Australia, in 2019. His research has long been focused on the micro/nano-structure engineering, photophysics, and interfacial physical modulation of perovskite and organic semiconductors, and he has developed a deep understanding of carrier excitation dynamics. In recent years, he has presided over and successfully completed a number of research projects, including those funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China. Up to now, 30 scientific papers were published on top peer-reviewed international journals. He has been recognized as a selectee of Jiangsu Province’s “333 High-Level Talent Training Project,” “Qinglan Project,” and a recipient of the Changzhou Youth Talent Support Program.

7. Prof. Fei Zheng, Ningbo University

Fei Zheng is a professor from school of physical science and technology, Ningbo University, China. He received his Ph.D. from Shandong University in 2017, majoring in microelectronics and solid-state electronics. After that, he undertook five years of postdoctoral research at the University of Melbourne, Australia. Now his research areas and interests include time-resolved laser micro-spectroscopies, advanced scanning-probing techniques, and the device physics of 2D optoelectronics.
